mENTORSHIPS

Students have approached me over the years about mentorships/internships. While I can’t guarantee taking on students due to my busy schedule, this section of my FAQ will run through what my mentorships can look like, and my needs from those who are interested.

About me and my process:

  • My expertise is comics, product design, and selling/marketing at conventions. Although I do illustration and animation work, I am not the most proficient at providing lessons in those areas.

  • The work is largely student-led. I will provide critique, information on different industries, merchandise advice, and or one-on-one demonstrations based on what the student is looking to learn. I am not the one to determine a student's wants and needs, and I will not have a student work on my own projects (professional or otherwise) unless it aligns with their goals.

Things I need from those interested:

  1. Timeframe: When does your school need this mentorship to begin and end? How often would I have to meet with you (via zoom/meets/discord)? I can potentially do in-person meetings for those in the Washington state area.

  2. Your goals: What are you looking to achieve within that timeframe? Tell me about your project proposal, because this will let me see if I’m a good fit.

  3. What would you like to learn? Although you will be focused on one project, it can also intersect with other things that require experience or knowledge. For an example, if you’re making a comic book, are you hoping to learn how to print it? Are you designing a sticker sheet but are looking for advice for selling at conventions?

  4. Provide me a link to your social media, link tree, or portfolio so I get an idea of what your art is about.

  5. I do not require you to be in school or for your school to give you credits in order for me to take you on. Just let me know your status, because sometimes I am required to fill out paperwork and would rather be given a heads up. Non-urgent paperwork is very hard for me to get around to mentally!
